Silver and Gold I don’t have. Boy I fully understand that statement. Do you ever want to help the person “sitting at the gate” in need but not have what they are asking for? Does this cause you to not want to make eye contact?
Peter and John didn’t have what the beggar in Acts 3 was asking for – but that didn’t stop them from making eye contact. Instead they looked at him and beyond his surface and what he was asking for and saw his deeper need. And in stead of “driving by” they engaged and conversed and gave him what they had in order to meet his real need.
“But what I have I give you…” Peter went to the source and gave from the abundance of what they had been given.
Sometimes we want to help those around us but we truly have nothing to offer. We are empty and we cant give what we don’t have – no silver, no gold, no power.
What do you have to give?
Do you have the power of the Spirit filling your life?
Do you have the presence of the almighty empowering you to make a real difference in the lives of the hurting and lame around you?
Remember you can’t give what you don’t have.
What do you have?
Do you have a life filled with bitterness crowding out forgiveness?
Do you have a life filled with possessions crowding out generosity?
Do you have a life filled with selfishness crowding out servant-hood?
Do you have a life filled with resentment crowding out compassion?
Do you have a life filled with pride crowding out humility?
Do you have a life filled with self crowding out your vision to see the needs of others?
Do you have a life filled with you crowding out Christ?
You will end up giving out of what you have! What are you giving?
